Frequent Questions

WHAT IS BETHANY Homestead?
Bethany Homestead is a Homestead formed by the Baptist, Congregational and United Reformed Churches comprising of a 38 bed Care Home, 33 Bungalows and a Chapel set in 10 acres of accessible grounds.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN?
Having attained the necessary age level, anyone who wishes to live by the Christian ethos of the Homestead is welcome to apply for a place at Bethany. However, priority is normally given to members of one of the supporting denominational churches within Northampton and district.
What is the Age Level required?
There is no upper age limit but applicants should normally be 65 years of age or over.
ARE THERE ANY EXCEPTIONS TO THESE RULES?
Yes - The Trust Deed allows for admission in special circumstances. This is however, infrequently applied.
ARE ONLY SINGLE PEOPLE ADMITTED?
By no means - There are 11 double occupancy dwellings within the complex and two rooms in the Care Home available for double use if requested.
IS ACCOMMODATION FREE?
Unfortunately not - Bethany is a Registered Charity and its charges are among the lowest in the area. You will be advised on the rental/room costs separately.
How do I Apply?
To attain an application form please:
Tel: 01604 713171
Email:  reception@bethanyhomestead.co.uk
WHAT INFORMATION IS NEEDED?
A completed application form, including a statement outlining your reason for application and personal details. This would normally be supported by a recommendation from your church and a statement of health from your doctor.
HOW DO I KNOW THERE ARE VACANCIES?
Vacancies are notified to all relevant churches as soon as they occur. Applications for the Care Home can be made at any time but admissions can only be made when any of the 38 beds or individual bungalows becomes available.
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY APPLICATION?
It will be considered by a monthly meeting of the Management Committee and you will be immediately informed as soon as it is registered into the admissions procedure.
HOW SOON CAN I MOVE IN?
This will depend on a current vacancy.  For Care Home places the registered manager will continuously monitor the position and keep you advised.  The manager will then visit to ensure that Bethany can meet your needs.
In the case of a bungalow vacancy you will be invited to view the vacant dwelling and during this visit an assessment/ interview will take place with the manager of the home.

WHAT IS THIS GENERAL COMMITtEE?
Each of the covenanting churches provide two members to this committee, who consider each application in strictest confidence. Where more than one application is received for the same dwelling, a vote will be taken and all applicants advised of the result.
WHAT IF I AM UNSUCCESSFUL?
You may apply again. Each time a vote is taken, the over-riding consideration is present need. Since this is comparative, you may be successful next time.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CHARGES TO RESIDENTS?
Sheltered Housing: You will only pay for electricity consumed by you, which is measured on an individual meter. In the new bungalows you will also be on a water meter.

Council Tax, internal and external repairs, TV reception and contents insurance (limited) are all included in your rental. Private telephone lines are the responsibility of the occupant.

Unfortunately No - Whilst your dog, cat or bird may be a part of your family, it may also be the cause of concern to other residents. We do however have our own visiting pat dog Charlie! We welcome well behaved visiting pets.
IS ALCOHOL FORBIDDEN?
No - but due to the nature of the Homestead and its background of Christian non-conformity, sobriety is endemic.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I FEEL I CANNOT MANAGE IN MY Cottage?
You are visited daily by a health carer.  A care package can be made up which will enable you to remain as long as possible in your bungalow. The Domiciliary Care Supervisor and Manager of the Home will closely monitoring your capabilities and, when necessary, will suggest that you transfer to a room in the Care Home when available.
WHEN BEING ADMITTED TO THE CARE HOME, WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANNOT MEET THE COSTS?
The Government decrees that if your total savings are below a certain level you may apply for funding. Staff from the adult care team, department of the local authority, will interview you and depending upon your physical or mental condition; you will be supported financially. This process is slow because of limited national resources.
IF I AM SELF FINANCING BUT MY MONEY RUNS OUT WHAT HAPPENS TO ME?
Long before your money runs out you will become eligible for Government assistance. You will not notice anything different in your lifestyle and the administrator will help you to apply for financing.
ARE VISITORS RESTRICTED?
Bethany is your home, you should treat family and friends as you have always done.

We do ask if you are living within the care home that your visitors sign in and out to ensure that we are aware of who is on the premises.

IS THERE ANY ORGANISED SOCIAL LIFE?

There are many occasions for activity. The lounge area, the sunroom, the library and the Chapel provide some opportunities and there are organised music, quiz and internal occasions, and external visits to interesting spots mainly during summer months.
